After 5 team rounds, the Patriots had a team total of 4,691 pins, finishing day 1 in 9th place overall of 26 teams and beating out all other competitors from the Mid-South Conference (MSC) including the University of Pikeville and Bethel University, who both are currently ranked above UC in the MSC standings. UC stayed solid through the 16 Baker games as well, totaling 2,808 pins for a grand total of 7,499, rounding out the tournament in 11th place ahead of all MSC teams again.

  • Andy Cora (Mt. Sterling, KY) finished 19th with a sore of 1,004.
  • Bradley Paynter (Carlisle, OH) earned 23rd place individually with a score of 994.
  • Darion Hite (Hillsborough, NC) scored 935, good enough for 54th place.

BY THE NUMBERS - Women's Top Finishers

As for the Patriot ladies, they finished the team rounds with a score of 4,223 pins, sitting at 21st of 26 teams after the team rounds. UC did very well in the Baker games, scoring 2,909 pins to finish at 7,132 pins, moving up 4 spots to earn 17th place overall.

  • Jill Bunnell (Franklin, OH) finished 57th overall with a final score of 899.
  • Valerie Henry (Elgin, SC) finished 59th with a score of 894.
  • Teammate, Amanda Kelly (Georgetown, KY), followed in 61st with a score of 881.

UC Head Bowling Coach Kevin Reigle is overwhelmed with his team's progress saying, "It was a really good weekend for both teams. The Orange and Black Classic has one of the strongest tier 2 fields in all of college bowling. This was also the toughest and flattest oil pattern we will see all season. We got to see how we stack up early on in the season against the nation's best NAIA, USBC, and NCAA teams. The men did outstanding. We had the highest finish of Mid-South Conference teams and the third highest finish of NAIA teams at the event. I think our young team is starting to find their identity and are coming together to bowl some really solid games. The women also had a really strong weekend. Everything they do continues to improve including single pin spares, multiple pin spares, and making better first shots. We finished off the event really strong with an 828 baker set, which is a 207 average for 4 baker games."
