University of the Cumberlands offers undergraduate students who have excelled academically an opportunity to complete significant research in their major field of study. This advanced independent study or creative activity is conducted over two semesters and mentored by a faculty member. The resulting thesis and oral presentation are reviewed and approved by both the academic department and the Presidential Scholars Research Committee.

Cumberlands announces President's List for Fall '24 semester
In recognition of academic performance, the Office of Academic Affairs at University of the Cumberlands has announced the students named to the President's List for the fall 2024 semester. To be eligible for the President's List, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (a full course load), maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.0 for the semester, receive an "A" grade in UC Engage, and be in good academic standing. (Note: All students who are named to the President's List automatically make the Dean's List, since the Dean's List requires a minimum semester GPA of 3.5; however, Cumberlands only lists students on either the Dean's List or the President's List, to avoid overlap.)

Cumberlands Sigma Pi Sigma Inductee
University of the Cumberlands' Chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma held its Spring 2025 Induction Ceremony on April 22, welcoming nine new student members. The national physics honor society recognizes excellence in physics and scholarship. During the event, chapter members also elected officers for both the spring semester and the upcoming academic year. Sigma Pi Sigma, founded in 1921, is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and an affiliated society of the American Institute of Physics. Cumberlands' chapter was established in 1998.
