UC's Upsilon-Upsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta Inducts Two New Members
Two University of the Cumberlands' (UC) students were inducted into the Upsilon-Upsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta on December 3, 2014. The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Eric L. Wake, chapter advisor. The two students were: Hope Coleman (Georgetown, KY) and Mitchell Kithcart (PeeWee Valley, KY).

Kappa Delta Pi Inducts New Members
University of the Cumberlands' (UC) Kappa Delta Pi is the International Honor Society in Education. The induction ceremony was recently held at the Cumberland Inn where 19 new members were inducted. The Education Club and Alexandria Deaton, undergraduate Education professor, led the ceremony along with a guest speaker Dr. Jason Creekmore, UC graduate Education professor.

University of the Cumberlands' (UC) Human Services Department's honor society, Tau Epsilon Alpha, recently conducted a canned food drive. They collected and donated 610 cans to Cedar Ridge Ministries.

Two Patriots Earn MSC All-Conference Honors
Sophomore defenders Jack Cousin (Alva, Scotland) and Jack Hutton (Preston, United Kingdom) were both named 2nd team All-Conference for the Mid-South Conference. Both Cousin and Hutton were key parts to a solid Patriot defensive line in the 2014 season that averaged giving up just over 2 goals per contest.

MSC announced that numerous student-athletes earned honors for their work in the classroom. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.

Phi Alpha Theta Program Features UC Students and Internship
University of the Cumberlands' (UC) Phi Alpha Theta society hosted their first installment of their lecture series Tuesday, September 24, 2014. The topic of discussion was "Narratives of Working with Government Internships." The three students who led the discussion were Rhyana Barker, Kimberly Farr, and Cody King. Matthew Kelley, a senior Phi Alpha Theta member, facilitated the discussion.

UC's Appalachian Ministries hosts VBS at Corbin Manor
University of the Cumberlands' (UC) Appalachian Ministries (AM) team visited the Corbin Manor Apartments July 14th through the 18th and held Vacation Bible School (VBS) on the complex's property in Corbin. There were nearly 25 kids from the apartments in attendance.

UC's Tanner Williams leads BCM Worship
Williams took a common worship theme, freedom, and made it his own during his discourse. He said what freedom is to a regular person is defined differently from what God's definition of freedom is. He said Jesus allows a person to be set free by Him, but only because that person belongs to Him, in which Williams called a paradox.

UC's Mountain Outreach partners with the Bell-Whitley Repair Affair
The Repair Affair team processed applicants who were in serious need of various types of repairs at local residencies and provided labor and materials to complete the repairs at no cost to the home owners. There were approximately 85 volunteers, 30 of them being UC students and members from First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Ky. who came out to help with the various projects at hand.

Gine Nichols (Horse Cave, Ky.), University of the Cumberlands' (UC) student and member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Corbin, Ky., spent a week in Nairobi, Kenya ministering to children and young women in the slums this past summer.

Representatives from University of the Cumberlands (UC) and the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) met at the Cumberland Inn recently. On August 27, University of the Cumberlands' (UC) student, Stephanie McVay Pettit was awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship by the Williamsburg Grand Commandery of Kentucky Knights Templar and Williamsburg Lodge 490. The award was presented to Pettit by Commander, Larry Carte.

UC Honor Society Spotlight: Phi Alpha Theta
Founded in 1974, the Upsilon-Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history, holds the great distinction of being both the oldest and the most frequently honored society at University of the Cumberlands. Phi Alpha Theta has for 37 of the last 38 years recognized Upsilon-Upsilon as the best chapter in its division.

UC's Chapter of Sigma Beta Delta inducts new members
Sigma Beta Delta was established to honor students who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation. Sigma Beta Delta, International Honor Society in Business, Management, and Administration, installed its first chapter in March 1994. Sigma Beta Delta has installed over 395 chapters and has reached over 70,000 members.

UC senior Danielle Hoop (Owenton, Ky.) was named this week's Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the week, conference officials announced on Tuesday. This is the 4th award this season for Hoop and the seventh of her career.

Schlatter Earns Mid-South Conference Volleyball Player of the Week
Junior Morgan Schlatter (Springboro, Ohio) was named MSC Volleyball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. This is Schlatter's first honor of the season and first of her career. It is the first MSC weekly award for UC in volleyball since 2012. Schlatter totaled 59 kills during the week for a 3.5 kills per set average while leading the Patriot ladies to a 3-1 record last week.

Ingleton Earns 2nd MSC Special Teams Player of the Week Award
Freshman Blake Ingleton (Canton, Ga.) won the MSC Special Teams Player of the Week award this week, conference officials announced on Monday. Ingleton returned a kickoff 97 yards for touchdowns in the Patriots' 42-13 loss to NAIA #9 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) on Saturday. This is the 2nd straight game that Ingleton has returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
